Welcome!
Hi! Welcome to my page. I’m Sheila Whitman, a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in Applied Mathematics and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Arizona. My work bridges applied mathematics, materials science, and artificial intelligence, with a focus on developing machine learning (ML), computer vision (CV), and natural language processing (NLP) methods to accelerate materials discovery and design.
I am particularly interested in multimodal learning, feature representation, and data-driven modeling of materials systems to enable faster, more interpretable predictions of processing-structure–property relationships.
As I transition toward the next stage of my career, I aim to continue advancing computational approaches that support the design of sustainable and high-performance materials for real-world applications.
